Framed Finished

I don't have a name for it yet. And the coloring is a little off in this photo. But it was a gold frame before and I used gesso and adhering medium on the glass before I painted on it.

Ecstasy

It's self-portrait time for drawing class. I've always wanted to roll in yarn, so thought this was a good excuse. This one sort of reminds me of Bernini's Ecstasy of St. Theresa. Google for pics. This is just one picture of many choices, not sure which to use yet. Other options are on facebook.

Mocek wants me to incorporate sewing, but what's  wrong with actual drawing? What do you think would be the best way to deal with it? If it's plain drawing, could it handle having my face in just black and white and the red tones in colored pencil? I don't want my face to be overpowered or have it look cheezy like one of those camera color picker shots. I think it would lose something without the color. Do you agree or am I just obsessed with red?

Framed

(First of all, I love this blog already.
I look forward to reading the posts and being part of the discussions.)

A few weeks ago I was given several different sized framed pictures, all of them (picture and frame) being hideous. I intend on repainting all of the frames and my goal is then paint on the glass for most of them. I bought a paint medium that is supposed to help paint adhere to the glass and a finish that should seal the painting after I am finished. However if any of you have any advice or tips please share away. My first project is a smaller 8x10 frame that i have painted a bold ultramarine blue. My idea for painting is along the lines of this sketch:

I want to use blue tones on the face and hair and red for the background, and then use black to line it creating a slightly cartoon-ish feel.

Any thoughts?

redbubble.com

i found this ridiculously cool website. redbubble.com
you can post tshirt designs without paying a fee and they will print them for people and then you get a certain cut of the check. how sweet is that? there's also art work but they create digital prints from your work and i'm not quite sure how i feel about it. the stuff on it is pretty sweet though :)
check it out!

So here is the beginning of m
y eyes :) they are both my sister eye from different angles. the one on the left was the first one. i like the texture/darkness of the one on the right alot better. i suspect the more i do the more the style will change. we'll see. my question, i want to know what emotion/thought/something that they provoke. i want to capture something with these eyes and i haven't the faintest idea how to do so except by thinking about it as i'm making it. just let me knwo what you think :)

The beginning

I have my fiber independent study approved (I think) and was feeling unaccomplished for not having started anything yet and for not achieving my weekend goal of ordering supplies. As I was putting away my bag from Target, the thought crossed my mind if it would be possible to knit with it somehow. I was thinking of making a re-useable bag out of bags since getting a free plastic bag with every purchase does seem quite silly. I love the fact that I was able to make fabric out of plastic strips, but haven't quite come up with a legitimate artistic reason for its existence yet. Any ideas? I don't want it to be cliche with the current eco-bag craze.

I'm currently pondering the concept of nest and cocoon as themes for a body of work.

Inspiration

I realize that the idea is to post art for critique, but this will turn into art sometime soon. I very much enjoyed choosing a mostly coordinating palette of thread to have on hand for my independent study. Decided to splurge since it was on sale. This will hopefully prevent late night frustration from not having the right color at my fingertips! Plenty of greens in case I want to do my eyes. Just wanted to share my delight at how beautiful my little thread rainbow looked before I put it away in a box.
