Framed

(First of all, I love this blog already.
I look forward to reading the posts and being part of the discussions.)

A few weeks ago I was given several different sized framed pictures, all of them (picture and frame) being hideous. I intend on repainting all of the frames and my goal is then paint on the glass for most of them. I bought a paint medium that is supposed to help paint adhere to the glass and a finish that should seal the painting after I am finished. However if any of you have any advice or tips please share away. My first project is a smaller 8x10 frame that i have painted a bold ultramarine blue. My idea for painting is along the lines of this sketch:

I want to use blue tones on the face and hair and red for the background, and then use black to line it creating a slightly cartoon-ish feel.

Any thoughts?

  1. I love the idea of redeeming yucky frames! I haven't tried painting on glass, but think one or two artists in the gallery have had pieces on glass. I think oil and acrylic would eventually dry. The Golden paint rep came to talk to painting class and told us that they have a tech division of their company that always loves weird questions. You could try looking on their website and ask to see if they have any tips.

I like the really strong profile and the idea of incorporating the same color scheme in the frame and the piece. Warm/cool contrast usually makes for strong work. I personally can't usually execute the cartoony feel very well, or abstract either really. But I like it. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
