Hey all, I love it when you post what you've been doing, but wondered if I could demand an update. :)
Are you all still painting/drawing/creating? (Laura, love your work that you've been posting - I enjoy it even though I don't always comment.)
Where are you all? (Facebook doesn't tell us everything!)
Anyhow, hope you are well and busy creating!

i'm with you julia! haha... i've felt like i've been in the midst of a mini dry spell of creativity... or that most of my creativity is leached out of me at work... but i also feel like i'm the edge of a creative explosion! so, i'm really hoping to explore the realms of digital photography, and photoshop and all that has to offer... i'm pretty excited about it! hope to post some fun images soon! love!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm still going..... ugallery.com picked one of my pieces to show on the front page this week! It's my newest painting- and my simplest, but they seemed to really like it.
ReplyDeleteLaura, from the looks of your postings, you seem to put a lot of your creativity into your work. I think it's really hard to find the balance where work helps you create instead of pulling away from your creativity. But I wish you the best and jump onto the creative explosion when it comes and don't forget to share. :)
ReplyDeleteJocelyn, that is awesome! Just checked out your stuff there and I love 'em! Now that I have a car I want to try to get some of my pieces in coffee shops and whatnot around here, but being an "artist" is a lot more work than just painting, or so I have discovered.
As for me, thanks to this little daily painting project of mine, I finally feel like painting is as automatic as brushing my teeth. Not in a bad way, but in a "I feel weird if I don't paint" kind of way.
But you all are so talented, so I want to urge you to keep it up. I also think we need to be able to shout out when we are excited and to call out when we're frustrated. Maybe you all talk more outside of this... I am terrible at keeping in touch with people... but as fellow artists I think we have all had our highs and lows and can help each other out.
Thanks for posting Julia! I've been missing your posts too and wondering how all of you are. I've ben really busy the last few weeks with work at school and filling in lots of extra time with the children's choirs for their concert weekend. I'm also lousy at keeping in touch. BUt Jocelyn is coming to visit me in St. L on March 29. Others are welcome!
ReplyDeleteJocelyn, love your paintings. Congrats on being on the front page!!! You have to tell us about these things.
Julia, I only have a chance to look at your facebook paintings sometimes. Maybe post an occasional excellent one here too? I love it when these pop up in my e-mail as a happy surprise. I'm so glad you have been able to get into the painting habit.
Laura your book designs inspire me. Always want to know how you made them! I like designing things, but am also afraid of the creative drain. Please keep sharing.
I have been in a horrible creative dry spell/life crisis. Don't really know what direction to go. Teaching music is not the right answer, although I've been thankful to have a job. Love the kids in small groups and speaking Spanish with them, but hate classroom management. Will interview to teach art there next year. We'll see. Also struggling to find the right kind of job that will let me be creative and still have the funds to support myself on my own. Encouragement and advice is appreciated!
I'm currently taking a web design class at the community college. Maybe I'll make a pretty banner for the blog : ) Also just completed a collage for a show that the current art teacher at school was kind enough to invite me to. I'll post pics after the opening this weekend. Not sure it's good, but good to make something for a change. Also investigating the weavers guild here and want to learn about knitting machines.
I'll do better about keeping you updated. Miss you all.
Katherine, I don't know if this makes you feel any better, but I have gone through some horrid dry spells where work and life just consumed me and I had nothing in me left for painting. So, while it is difficult being there, remember that this too shall pass. I never thoght I'd be happy with watercolor and I hadn't realized how much working with children was part of my inspiration. When I didn't work for those few months when we first moved here I went through a terrible dry spell.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm on spring break this week, so I'll post some things here. Thanks for responding. You all are wonderful. I love that we have this blog.
