The beginning

I have my fiber independent study approved (I think) and was feeling unaccomplished for not having started anything yet and for not achieving my weekend goal of ordering supplies. As I was putting away my bag from Target, the thought crossed my mind if it would be possible to knit with it somehow. I was thinking of making a re-useable bag out of bags since getting a free plastic bag with every purchase does seem quite silly. I love the fact that I was able to make fabric out of plastic strips, but haven't quite come up with a legitimate artistic reason for its existence yet. Any ideas? I don't want it to be cliche with the current eco-bag craze.

I'm currently pondering the concept of nest and cocoon as themes for a body of work.

  1. i really like the concept of nest and cocoon....it would be interesting to challenge our concept of comfy/cozy/safe with using materials that we dont' necessarily view as such...like the target bag :)

  2. Thanks! I am completely and totally enamored of this conversation we can have electronically even though you are far away.

  3. i like the idea too . . . not only is it something that you wouldn't expect to be cozy, but its also kind of like being nurtured by 'the man' or finding comfort in consumerism . . . way cool.

  4. I love what both Adel and Laura said. I don't have anything more enlightening to add, however I love the creativity of the concept and can't wait to see what you do with it.
