Ecstasy

It's self-portrait time for drawing class. I've always wanted to roll in yarn, so thought this was a good excuse. This one sort of reminds me of Bernini's Ecstasy of St. Theresa. Google for pics. This is just one picture of many choices, not sure which to use yet. Other options are on facebook.

Mocek wants me to incorporate sewing, but what's  wrong with actual drawing? What do you think would be the best way to deal with it? If it's plain drawing, could it handle having my face in just black and white and the red tones in colored pencil? I don't want my face to be overpowered or have it look cheezy like one of those camera color picker shots. I think it would lose something without the color. Do you agree or am I just obsessed with red?

  1. i think it would be an interesting challenge to do it all in black and white . . . especially with all of the textures . . .or maybe to bring in red as a middle hue for the whole thing . . . i like the composition of the picture though! too much fun!!!

  2. I love the idea of the black and white drawing, however I also love the idea of incorporating sewing as Mocek suggested. I could see red woven into the picture... not sure how that'd be done. I love the red and b/w contrast of your idea though. Great picture. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

  3. Every thought of using conte crayon? I've fallen in love with it lately, and it comes in some colors too.
